Many businesses begin with a dream, and so it was for my husband and me. I’m Barbara Shereda, and together with my husband, Jim, we began a “labor of love” that has spanned over 46 years.

Quality Metal Images, Inc. (QMI Group, Inc.) was established in our home in 1975, and we began producing Photo Print material for machine panels and awards.

By 1978, our business had outgrown our home, so we incorporated and moved to a commercial location in Madison Heights, Michigan. While most of our competitors concentrated on only one area, Quality Metal Images, Inc. encompassed both photo print and pantograph engraving.

With the advent of computer engraving, we realized that the future would call for more sophisticated equipment. So, we purchased the first Dahlgren Computer Engraving System in Michigan. With this pioneering step, we not only offered our customers a wider range of engraving, we increased productivity of plaques, trophies, awards and other products therefore enabling us to meet our customers’ deadlines in half the time!

Continued growth and expansion necessitated Quality Metal Image Inc.’s 1990 move to a facility in Troy, Michigan. The increased space, nearly 15,000 square feet, was utilized to expand even further in the areas of awards and identification products.

We bolstered our in-house capabilities by adding laser engraving (ND:YAG and CO2), screen printing and vinyl graphics, enabling us to provide more imaginative projects without outsourcing.

Quality Metal Images, Inc. was renamed QMI Group, Inc. in September 2004. This was to increase awareness of QMI Group Inc.’s capabilities to manufacture and supply awards, recognition products, advertising specialty items, signage and graphics services.

In 2008 we expanded again by moving operations to a 20,000 sq.ft. building in Madison Heights. This move allowed us to restructure our operations so we could be as efficient as possible. Also, wherever possible, we have utilized energy saving technology to help preserve the environment.

We are proud of the referrals we have received from many of our customers and industry associates. Today, as always, we rise to the occasion with creativity, craftsmanship and integrity.

The dream that my husband and I had back in the mid-seventies has grown and spread not only to our own family, but to a loyal, talented and dedicated staff of professionals. QMI Group Inc. is today a leader in the corporate recognition, awards and identification industries, respected by our competitors and revered by our customers, who know that we offer truly unique items that are not found elsewhere in our business.

As we face the challenges and opportunities of the future, we look forward with enthusiasm and optimism.
